JV Shocks NU 33-28 on 99 yard Benevidez Kick Return!

Raymond BenevidezThe Woodcreek JV team defeated Nevada Union 33-28 in an absolute thriller on Friday night.
 
After what can only be described as some serious home cooking by the men in stripes, Nevada Union scored the go ahead touchdown with :28 left in the game. Nevada Union had been given the ball after an absolutely horrendous call on a fumble where the Woodcreek running back was down by contact on his back. But in the end, a player decided the game, as Raymond Benevidez took the kick-off 99 yards to the house on an electrifying run to win it for Woodcreek with 14 seconds left on the clock.

Woodcreek got on the board first after an NU fumble with a 22 yard TD strike from Stephen Nogosek to Austin Blatnick with 2:57 left in the 1st quarter to make it 7-0.

Another NU fumble on their next series lead to a 1 yard QB sneak by Stephen Nogosek to give Woodcreek a 13-0 lead with 1:20 left in the first.

NU got on the board with a 1 yard run to make it 13-7 with 5:41 left in the 2nd quarter.

Woodcreek countered with a 20 yard TD toss from Nogosek to Joey Dirkes with 24 seconds left in the half. NU returned the ensuing kick-off 60 yards to make it 19-14 at the half.

With 1:16 left in the 3rd quarter, Woodcreek scored again on a 3 yard run by Jared Duran and a 2 point conversion by Vince Fernandez to make it 27-14 Woodcreek. Fernandez had an absolutely phenomenal game at RB as the Woodcreek O-line dominated NU throughout the game.
 
NU cut the lead to with 9:04 left in the 4th quarter on a 2 yard TD run to make it 27-21 Woodcreek. NU scored again after the gift from the zebras on a 3 yard TD run to make it 28-27 NU with 28 seconds left in the game.
 
It then came down to the return by Benevidez who covered over 100 yards in 14 seconds. Woodcreek recovered the on-side kick and took a knee to close out the game.
 
Woodcreek moves to 1-3 in the SFL and 4-5 overall. They close out the season at Del Oro on November 5th.
