Freshman lose to Nevada Union 42-27

Despite a tremendous rushing night by Mitchell Layton, the Woodcreek Freshman lost to Nevada Union 42-27.
After NU scored on a long sustained drive to take a 8-0 lead, Layton scored the first of his 3 TDs on the night with 76 yard TD run. Quarterback Steven Craik then hit Dillon Bolen for the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
NU then went on to score 2 more TDs to take a 22-8 lead. After the ensuing kick-off, Layton struck again as he ran for a 50 yard TD to cut the lead to 22-14.
NU started the second quarter off with a 50 yard TD pass to increase their lead to 28-14. But once again, on the first play from scrimmage, Layton went 60 yards to pull Woodcreek back within 7 points.
The first half ended with the score NU 28, Woodcreek 21.
The second half belonged to Nevada Union as they were able to score 2 more touchdowns.
Woodcreek’s lone score came in the 4th quarter on an exciting kick-off return by Austin Wellington.
