Woodcreek JV suffers first loss to Bear River

Injuries to two key defensive players coupled with a strong Bear River running game proved to be to much as the visiting Bruins defeated Woodcreek 20-14.
Bear River took the opening kick-off and drove 80 yards capped by a 12 yd TD run to take a 6-0 lead at the 5:36 mark of the 1st quarter. The PAT was no good. No other scoring took place as the quarter ended with the same score.
Bear River scored again on a 15yd TD run at the start of the 2nd quarter to make it 12-0. The 2 point conversion was no good. No other scoring took place as the halftime horn sounded with Bear River up 12-0.
Woodcreek got on the board with 6:23 left in the 3rd quarter after a nice drive ended on a 2 yd Vince Fernandez TD run to make the score 12-6. The PAT was no good. With momentum on their side, Woodcreek’s defense stepped up and stopped Bear River on their next possession forcing a punt. Woodcreek took over on their 17 yd line but fumbled on the first play of their drive. Bear River scored what proved to be the game winning TD on the very next play as they scored on a 17 yd TD run as well as the 2 point conversion to make it 20-6. The 3rd quarter ended with the same score.
No other scoring to place until there were 23 seconds left in the game as a frantic Woodcreek drive ended when Peter Santos hit Seth York on a short TD pass to make it 20-12. Vince Fernandez punched in the 2 point conversion to make it 20-14. The subsequent onsides kick was recovered by Bear River ending the comeback bid for Woodcreek.
